Our To Try List covers new restaurants, dining deals, drinks discounts, guest shifts, pop-ups, and more happenings in Beijing.

Singapore Hawker Festival Comes to JinShang·Yuan, Aug 10

JinShang is partnering up with Singaporean restaurant Vanda Room and the Singapore Global Network to bring a hawker street party to Beijing. All set to take place next Saturday, Aug 10, in honor of Singapore National Day, JinShang will be transforming their Theater Garden and Starlight Lounge into a bustling hawker marketplace.

Naturally, the highlight of the event will be the delectable food and drinks which will be provided by Vanda Room, other Singaporean brands Jumbo Seafood and Putien as well as various local F&B brands. They’ll have a range of classic Singaporean dishes like Singapore Katong Laksa (lead picture), Indian Peanut Snacks, Barbecued SkewersNonya Popiah (pictured above), Kaya Toast and for those with a sweet tooth, Singapore’s famous ice cream sandwiches.

Along with food, there will be iconic Singaporean seasonal cocktails and other traditional drinks such as Singapore Nanyang Coffee (Kopi) and Teh Tarik (pulled tea, pictured above). The festival is also family-friendly and they will have a designated kids' area with activities such as face painting, coloring and more.

The Singapore Hawker Festival will be taking place at JinShang·Yuan on Saturday, Aug 10 from 11.30am until 7.30pm. Adult tickets are RMB 100 and kids tickets (under 12 years old) are RMB 59, tickets can be exchanged for food and drink at the festival and can be bought by scanning the poster above. Songnia Takes Over the Kitchen at The Sandy, Aug 3-4

But first, a bit of wine and dine fun this weekend: despite having only just recently opened, The Sandy is already bringing exciting foodie events to the capital with their “The Sandy x Friends” series. A takeover series, their second installment this weekend (Aug 3-4) will see actor, director and full time foodie (and past Beijinger contributor) Songnia taking over the kitchen. She’ll be bringing beach vibes to the table with lobster rolls, ice cream and Spanish wine.

Ice cream will be served from 4pm each day, available as ice cream pops (RMB 43) or as ice cream croissant sandwiches (RMB 58). It's available in some pretty stellar flavors to boot: taro, pistachio strawberry pesto, and spicy mango yuzu sorbet. We're eyeing the pistachio strawberry pesto one for sure, but which one would you try?

As for the lobster rolls (RMB 98), they'll be avaiable from 9pm each day of the event, in limited quantity. Expect the Classic Maine roll to be joined by a Spicy Szechuan and Thai Tom Yum version. Yum indeed.

BBB Returns with BBBistro in Langyuan Station

After closing their doors on Fangjia Hutong earlier this year, BBB – also known as Baby Boom Bar – is back, but this time it’s not banging beats they're bringing, but food and drink instead. Called BBBistro, they’ve relocated to Langyuan Station and had their official soft opening party last weekend. They seem to be keeping pretty tight-lipped on the full details of this new venture, however from their Dianping page it looks like they’ll be specializing in Italian cuisine.
