This Week in Health and Fitness: Train Hard at Hotel Jen's Trainyard
After an extended absence over the winter months, This Week in Health and Fitness is back just in time for summer, bringing you weekly updates on fitness events, health and wellness, and healthy eating from around Beijing.
I, for one, have always been a fan of hotel gyms – who doesn't love a free workout (or at least included in the cost of your hotel) – but it's true that they don't tend to be much more than a few running machines and weights thrown together in a conference room, with a swimming pool if you're lucky. That doesn't quite ring true at Trainyard at the soon-to-open Hotel Jen in Guomao, which aims to be not just a gym but also one of the hotel's flagship public offerings. The gym is currently in soft opening and will open officially on June 1.
Covering a slightly mind-boggling 3,500 square meters on the fourth and fifth floors of the hotel, the gym has a huge number of Life Fitness cardio and weight machines (so you're unlikely to ever have to wait for a machine), as well as some draconian-looking functional training machines. Next to the main cardio room on the fifth floor is a 25-meter swimming pool (the pool is not in use during the soft opening period). Mostly notably, the fourth floor is home to a full-sized boxing ring, which will be used to hold boxing and MMA classes, and other events.
For many, the best thing about Trainyard will be the view. Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the gym offer great views of the CCTV Headquarters and the other skyscrapers in the area, as well as plenty of natural light. Five group class studios also offer those views, and will be used to hold classes in spinning, yoga, pilates, Zumba, functional training, and more, once the gym is fully operational at the beginning of June.
Overall, Trainyard looks to be a pretty solid option for Guomao office workers looking for a gym with good facilities that won't get too crowded (we can't promise that last part but with 3,500 square meters to play with you'll always be able to find some free space).
The Trainyard is currently offering early-bird annual memberships starting from RMB 12,888 (originally RMB 17,500) and going up to RMB 15,888 for the Gold membership, which includes an exclusive welcome pack, access to all group classes, and 15 percent discount on massage services, laundry services, and Hotel Jen restaurants. These deals are only available until May 31.

Why everything the best in Goumao or Santitun? Can you please add info on cool places (and not only for fitness) in Zhongguancun?
There's also a Wudaokou guide you might want to check out.

Sorry ... appears most cool things are in Sanlitun/Guomao. What do you like most about your neighborhood? Anything you recommend we check out?
