The Devil Wears Yashow?: Anna Wintour Drops in on Vogue China
US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, widely considered one of the most powerful figures in the fashion industry, paid her first visit to China earlier this week.
And which city did she choose to see first? Beijing, of course – home of Vogue China.
The visit coincides with US Vogue’s December feature on Asian models who are “redefining traditional concepts of beauty.” New York's fashion blog The Cut points out that Asian faces are a rarity in the magazine, and that hopefully, Vogue does not feel "the acknowledgment has been made" and it can now "revert back to [its] usual ultra-white mix of models in subsequent issues."
Anna Wintour being here in Beijing seems to reflect a commitment to supporting her magazine's statement.
On Tuesday, November 23, 2010, she – along with Vogue China editor Angelica Cheung, and US Vogue colleagues Ann Sylvana Soto-Ward (Director of Special Events) and Mark Holgate (Fashion News Director) – spoke at a forum at The Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.
The focus of the discussion was on expanding the fashion market to accommodate both overseas designers who want to enter China, and Chinese designers who’d like to go to the US.
Below are photos from their jet-setting late-night affair.

It's kind of strange to see Anna Wintour's eyes - I think it's the first time I've actually seen her photographed without her sunglasses on

yah, I don't think they cared that much for the others in the room. But still, the photos could have done with a bit more creative flair.

As mentioned in the photo credits, the images were all provided by Vogue China. They probably wanted to keep the emphasis of the night on Anna Wintour and Angelica Cheung, hence why you see so many of the same faces in the photos above.
