Shanzhai Victoria’s Secret Show at Chengdu University

A student-organized runway show at Chengdu University of Technology drew vicious mockery (and appreciation) from netizens for its close resemblance to the world-famous Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, from the lingerie designs to the way the models sashayed down the catwalk. Read on for comparison photos and video footage.

According to Netease, all the clothing was “designed” and modeled by the school’s students. We can all admire a homegrown production, but can lingerie shows ever be considered appropriate for a college setting (much less as part of its grand graduation show)? The general public is conflicted, some arguing that young people should have fun and show off their “creativity,” while others claim that this is proof that China has opened up too much. We say the first argument has little basis if future designs don’t show a little more originality.

Of course, Beijing has its own Victoria's Secret copycats (such as Flower’s Secret or the recently closed eponymous VS Lounge, which hosted its share of male lingerie shows in its heyday), plus we can buy those infamous angel wings for a much cheaper price on Taobao. There is also a growing selection of sexily unique bras, panties, teddies and garters around town. See our lists of lingerie shops (brick-and-mortar and online) here if you don’t believe us.

I don´t really think that a bunch of nearly naked girls walking on the stage is a major issue here, Marilynmai :H . What bothers me the most after reading this blog is a question of when chinese would start thinking creativitely. Do something about this, professors! Your pure-minded students seriously need some creativities in their heads. Sad
