EAT: Naked Boxing Bao at Zarah, Christmas Hygge at Moka Bros, and Maovember Mystery Wine Party
Many restaurants and diners will be preoccupied with Thanksgiving this week (see our full round-up of Thanksgiving dinners, including delivery and take away options, here) but there are still plenty of foodie things to do for the non-turkey-concerned.
On Friday, Nov 24, three of China’s hottest F&B brands – Baozza, Boxing Cat, and Naked Nut Butters – are coming together at Zarah to offer four types of savory Baozzas, each paired with a different draft beer from Boxing Cat, as well as dessert Baozzas handmade at the event featuring Naked Nut Butters. Zarah will be cranking up the heat in their beautiful courtyard and dropping some serious beats, with DJs spinning all night long. During the event, you can get three Baozzas and a pint of any Boxing Cat draft beer for RMB 60. Boxing Cat recommends pairings such as the Margherita Baozza with their Right Hook Helles or the barbecue chicken Baozza with their TKO India Pale Ale.
There will be also a live-cooking station in Zarah’s courtyard for dessert Baozza made using a ridiculously delicious vanilla and chocolate chip dough as well as nut butters for the fillings provided by Naked Nut Butters. The first 30 guests to order a set of “Boxing Bao” will receive a complimentary dessert Baozza, which can otherwise be ordered individually for RMB 10.
If you haven't started feeling festive yet then don't worry because the guys from Moka Bros, The Georg, and Slow Boat are here to help with a little Danish Christmas cheer this Saturday, Nov 25. They have put their festive minds together to create a day of traditional Danish Christmas Hygge (Danish for "cozy AF," although don't take our word for that). Prepare yourself to indulge in The Georg’s very own roast pork sandwiches, Danish æbleskiver (light and fluffy balls of donut batter, dipped in sugar and jam), and luxurious and boozy mulled wine (made with red wine, rum, cognac, and port, topped off with a scoop of month-long rum-soaked raisins). If mulled wine isn’t your thing, wash down your pork sandwich with a pint of freshly poured Safe Harbour Christmas Ale, brewed by Slow Boat.
Cap off your weekend (or unscrew the cap, if you're still drinking) at the third annual Maovember Mystery Wine Party at Q Bar on Sunday, Nov 26. For RMB 100, you can blind pick a bottle of wine valued at anywhere between RMB 150 and RMB 1,000 from niche importers and producers such as The Wine Republic, La Cava de Laoma, 1421, and Ponty. All proceeds from the event will go to Maovember's 2017 charities, The Library Project and Bread of Life bakery. Read more about them here.
