EAT: Where to Eat Over the National Day Holiday

EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.

Q Mex Solana soft opening

Q Mex have just opened a new location at Solana, their fifth in Beijing and the largest to date, complete with two floors, outdoor seating, and a pool table. They also have a selection of dishes exclusive to that location including barbecue pork ribs, Argentinian rib eye steak, and a very indulgent sounding truffle and Parma ham burger. We foresee this one being very popular during the National Day Holiday, especially if the weather is goof.

Sep 29: Autumn to table dinner at Mosto

Celebrate the best of autumn produce in this one-off dinner created by Mosto's Chef Daniel Urdaneta. Samples dishes made with seasonal September ingredients like spiced pumpkin soup, cheese ravioli with porcini and sautéed Yunnan mushrooms, and josper grilled venison with creamy brussel sprouts. The six-course dinner is priced at RMB 588. There are only a few spots available, so add 132 6327 8904 on Wechat to secure your place.

Try the Bee Brunch at the Intercontinental in Sanlitun, which is currently on offer for RMB 368 for three courses or RMB 398 for four courses, both including free-flow bubbly and cocktails. However, you'll need to act fast, because these special prices are only available until 29 September (phone 186 1102 9628 to book). Oct 1: Knife skills cooking class at The Hutong

Take advantage of all that time over the National Day Holiday to brush up on your knife skills, specifically, how to use a Chinese cleaver. Join this class at The Hutong where you'll learn hands-on techniques to slice, smash, shred, mince and debone with a cleaver, while you learn to whip up three classic Chinese dishes. The class is priced at RMB 350.

New roast chicken at Las Musas

The team at Las Musas just keep coming up with delicious new dishes. A few weeks ago it was pork ribs, this week it's a chipotle-lime charcoal roasted chicken. Priced at RMB 98 per half bird, the chicken serves two to three people and comes with a spiced jus reduction, pineapple salsa, and assorted tortillas.
