Burger Brief: East's Feast Gives 3 Reasons to Try Their Burgers, and Xian Menu Upgrade
Burger Brief takes a look at some of the attendees of the Beijinger's 2017 Burger Cup. Help push your favorite Beijing burger through the latest round of voting here.
If you can't make your mind up between having a classic-style burger, a more indulgent combination, or opt for something completely out of left wing with an unorthodox seafood option, Feast (Food by East) has done their best to make sure all bases are covered. With such a promise, it would have been wrong of us to turn all three, so we dug in instead.
The first, and more indulgent option, is a patty made from prime Australian wagyu beef with a layer of foie gras, and a tangy and sweet thick onion chutney (RMB 138). Although the chutney may be a little too sweet for your average burger lover the combination ties together well and definitely conveys a sense of decadence.
That same, high-quality beef is also used to make the somewhat more classic cheese and bacon beef burger (RMB 118), which comes topped with creamy cheddar cheese and crispy bacon for a somewhat messy experience, just the way we like it. This burger actually turned out to be one of the best that we've tried throughout the Burger Cup proceedings, particularly notable for how the thick-cut cheese melted into the burger, and the crispy bacon added just that little bit of extra saltiness.
If both of these options sound too heavy, there's also the creamy crab buger (RMB 138) with a spread of spiced mango chutney for a slightly tropical flavor. In fact, this burger brings a taste of Southeast Asia to the offerings, and warms the belly nicely thanks to a semblance of chili concealed in the mango chutney.
Elsewhere at East Beijing, Xian Bar's menu revamp is worth mentioning. The new cocktails on the menu include a seasonal mango rosemary Caipirinha (RMB 98),a fruity number which uses rosemary-infused cachaca, and the Frozen, a sake cocktail (RMB 108) with umeshu, egg white, lemon juice, and syrup. These drinks add to an already well-rounded menu and ensure that there's something for everyone.
