Fire at Chaoyang: Huixinxi Jiekou was caught off guard on Thursday by billowing black smoke from a building in Xiaoguan Beili neighborhood. The fire was apparently the result of an ongoing construction project at the building.

Roads to close for trade fair: Yesterday, the Traffic Management Bureau announced that several roads near Beijing’s Olympic park will close on Thursday, Sep 3 after 6pm for a major trade fair. The closed roads include parts of Tianchen Donglu, Tiancheng Xilu, and Guojia Tiyuchang Beilu.

Line 1 Meets Batong: Line 1 and Batong Line, which services East Beijing, have merged at long last. On Sunday, trains will travel seamlessly from one line to the next for the first time, meaning that passengers will no longer have to deboard at Sihui Dong or Sihui East stations in order to transfer between the lines.

Three months rent max: A draft of new local regulation, if enacted, could mean that rental agencies will be barred from collecting more than three months’ worth of rent in a single payment. Under the rule, if collection does exceed that amount then the collector could be subject to investigation.
