Got Tea Ennui? InWe Tea Offers New, Weird, Mediocre Cheese Tea at Beijing Fun

Our love for cheese tea will never end, as evidenced by our inability to pass a new cheese tea place without popping in for a look-see, which inevitably turns into a taste. Such was the case at the newly built Beijing Fun area: InWe Tea is too spacious for a tea shop – almost ten times the size of the Coco milk tea shop in your neighborhood. Half of Beijing Fun is still under construction, but you'll likely none the less find InWe Tea quite packed on a weekend afternoon. And that's saying something when you consider its neighboring competitors: Voyage Café next door, and the luxurious (read: expensive) tea house The British House just around the corner.

The drink list is quite simple, with coffee (RMB 38), three choices of cheese tea (RMB 25-28), single tea (RMB 28-32), fruit tea, and enzyme tea (RMB 28-32). The food menu might seem familiar if you’ve been to Maan Café for something to eat: There are toasts (RMB 18), waffles (RMB 42-52), cakes (RMB 28-48), and fried chicken (RMB 22).

Of the jasmine, pu’er, and white tea with cheese topping, we opted for the white tea (RMB 28), which took a while to serve. The tea was brown with a thick cheese topping in green. “This isn't weird at all,” I whispered to myself, trying to force some positive thoughts into my mind before tasting it. The result? The potion was quite large, but the tea had an odd soapy flavor, and the cheese topping was simply too salty, though the choice of full or skimmed milk, and different levels of sugar won them some points back.

The bartenders/tea-brewers were quite kind and patient, and there’s also a semi-private room which can seat over 30 people for a tea party (does that size of tea party exist?) We could think it as a combination of Maan Café and Muji. InWe might not have many memorable products, but the sofas are quite comfortable for the people who would like to take a short rest before heading out for a freezing walk.
