Waldorf Astoria's Brasserie 1893 Revamps Menu, Still a Great Destination for Occasion Dining

Brasserie 1893, located in Waldorf Astoria Beijing near Wangfujing, is looking to let loose a little and become ever so slightly more casual with its revamped European menu. We always rated Brasserie 1893, named after the year the first Waldorf Astoria hotel opened, highly, and after this visit, continue to see it as one of Wangfujing's best dining spots.

This time around, we got to sample some of their signature dishes and came out with two new favorites: the pan-seared and lemon marinated mountain "steelhead" sustainable trout (RMB 288), and the bavette flap steak (RMB 338). The trout, flown in from Sichuan for a lower carbon footprint, was delicious, creamy, and fresh, and the flap steak tender and ever-so-slightly grilled for a touch of smokiness.

Having won best dessert in our Restaurant Awards more than once, we have high expectations of the Waldorf Astoria when the final menu comes by. The Waldorf Astoria caramelized vanilla mille-feuille (RMB 88), a new signature dish, stood out especially; the crispy sweet wafers sandwiching a smooth vanilla pastry cream ensured that we really could not get enough. The caramelized muscovado apple and yogurt cake with creme brulee ice cream and brandy snap (RMB 88) came a close second, proving a little heavier, but also delicious.

Brasserie 1983 have also installed a new 'Secret Wine List,' a collection of carefully selected and rotating wines from small and unique wineries across the globe, available at attractive prices.

These elements when tallied up mean that you know exactly where to find us for our next occasion meal.
