All Your Must-Have Items for River BBQ Fest

It's not long until River BBQ Fest, which kicks off this Friday (Sep 19) and will run until Sep 21. Taking place at Langyuan Station's Riverside Cultural Plaza, there is plenty of green space where you can set yourself up for the day, so here we've got some recommendations of useful items to bring.

Compact Picnic Blanket

One of the simplest things to bring along is a picnic blanket to relax on. The best ones are easy to fold for transport, and you can search for 野餐垫 (yěcān diàn) to find one. A good option is one that folds up with a handle – just like the ones the Beijinger has made for previous festivals!

Foldable Camping Chairs

If you want to do one better than a picnic blanket, then why not bring some foldable camping chairs to really up your River BBQ Fest experience? If ordering via shopping app, search for 折叠露营椅 (zhédié lùyíng yǐ) and be sure to double-check the size – you don't want to get a tiny kiddie-sized chair by mistake!

Portable Table

Really elevate – literally – your fest experience with a foldable camping table. Search for 折叠露营桌 (zhédié lùyíng zhuō) to find lightweight tables that are sturdy enough to hold plates and drinks.

Inflatable Lounger

For people who really want to get comfortable, why not get one of these inflatable loungers to kick back and relax? Just search for 充气沙发 (chōngqì shāfā) on your shopping app and take your pick!

Wet Wipes

If you're wolfing down barbecue, things can sometimes get messy! So, why not buy some wet wipes by searching 一次性湿巾 (yīcìxìng shījīn) and get everything from big packs to smaller individual packs that are convenient for tossing in your bag?

Hand Sanitizer

Hand sanitizer is also good to have if you want to avoid going to the toilet each time before eating to wash your hands. Search for 便携洗手液 (biànxié xǐshǒu yè); many places sell cute, pocket-sized sanitizer bottles that can clip onto your bag.

Mosquito Repellent

As the fest is close to the river, it's highly likely that there will be quite a few mosquitoes about, so remember to bring some mosquito repellent (驱蚊液 qūwén yè) with you to keep those pests at bay!

Sun Lotion

Although the peak summer heat is behind us, it's still a good idea to wear sun lotion to protect your skin. You can search for 防晒霜 (fángshàishuāng) on a waimai app or Taobao to see plenty of different lotions.

Collapsible Wagon

Finally, if carrying all that stuff sounds like too much hard work, then why not invest in a collapsible wagon you can chuck it all in to make things easier, instead? You can search for 露营推车 (lùyíng tuīchē) for a range of options, even including ones that double up as a table!

River BBQ Fest will be taking place at Langyuan Station on Sep 19 from 4pm until 9pm and Sep 20-21 from 11am until 9pm. Early bird tickets are RMB 19.9 and can be purchased by scanning the QR code in the poster above. Tickets at the door are RMB 29.9.

Langyuan Station Riverside Cultural Plaza

The River BBQ Fest will be taking place at Langyuan Station Riverside Cultural Plaza. Last year, the space underwent an upgrade and now features a scenic platform overlooking the Ba River. With blue skies, grassy lawns, river views, pedestrian streets and a sunken plaza, it’s the perfect setting for an autumn event.

Langyuan Station itself is a cultural and creative landmark featuring both industrial and international styles. Its location by the Ba River and adjacent to the greenery of Jiangfu Park makes it a place where you can enjoy nature and pop-up cultural activities at the same time. It's home to an array of businesses and industries such as art museums, cafés, home design, trendy fashion, upscale dining, sports and film, and it has become a popular hotspot for shopping and socializing in Beijing.
