Marcopalooza Brings a Packed Night of Music and Money for the Migrant Children's Foundation
Marcopalooza, an event that’s equal parts a birthday party, music festival, and fundraiser, is back again and bigger than ever. Chances are you’ve seen at least one of Marco Brun del Re’s bands (we’ve lost count) – he certainly has enough of them. We first experienced his presence skin-smashing in the now defunct prog/funk outfit Not There who were famous for long extended jams of transcendental hooliganism. Well, here’s your chance to see all of Marco’s current projects in one massive shindig set up to raise money for charity.
These include Nathan & Marco, Nathan and Friends, The Groove Collective, Rocksteady, The Beijing Supergroup, and our personal favorites, the Tavey Lean and The Solid Gold Dream Machine. We don’t know how this guy does it or has the time to hit so many things with sticks. Regardless of our concerns about Marco’s physical/mental wellbeing following the gig, we are positive that this will be an excellent display of some very entertaining music being made in Beijing, and all for a great cause.
The organization that will reap the benefits of this epic display of musical prowess is the Migrant Children’s Foundation, a nonprofit that aims to enrich the lives of disadvantaged children in China through various forms of voluntary work, sponsorship, vocational activities, and events. Door, raffle ticket money, and a portion of the money made from the bar will all be going to MCF.
Things get started at 7pm (May 28) at 4corners, bring a little cash for entry (RMB 50). A ticket purchase will make you eligible for a slew of prizes from local businesses like Cheers, Jing-A, Home Plate BBQ, and The Bookworm, with a raffle that will go on throughout the evening. Check out the event listing for more details.
