Tasty Sandwiches and Good, Cheap Yunnan Coffee at Tuk Tuk in Soft Opening Fangjia Hutong
In the ever-expanding Fangjia empire, and not far from Queenie's location on Yonghegong Dajie, the masterminds behind El Nido and Fang have joined teams for Tuk Tuk: a low-key neighborhood sandwich shop focusing on providing solid sandwiches throughout the day and into the night.
Currently, you have four different options when it comes to bread: French baguette, toasted ciabatta, sliced bread sandwiches (‘old classics’), and some wraps.
We dove in for the Great BLT (RMB 35), which came on sliced bread, filled with crispy bacon, a homemade mayonnaise and mustard sauce, iceberg lettuce, and cherry tomatoes. This is definitely one we'll go back for, as this hearty sandwich was not only really tasty, but also great value for money.
Off the ciabatta menu, we picked the roasted vegetables and goats cheese sandwich (RMB 45, pictured at top), toasted and crispy on the outside, but warm and gooey on the inside, the goats cheese mixing well with the roasted vegetables in terms of both texture and flavor.

The coffee at this joint is pretty legit: they're still running a trial with unpretentious coffee beans brought in the 'Jing directly from Yunnan, grown in one of the Fang staff's uncle's garden. Besides having a great story, and being genuinely China-grown and sourced, the coffee is great. At 15 kuai a cup, you're also unlikely to find a better deal in the area.
The menu is still developing, and the proprietors are looking to switch in Beijing-sourced ingredients where possible, so we're we'll keep our eye on the space, which has seating for about 16. They also offer delivery to those lucky enough to be located nearby.
