Gallery Watch: Diary of an Empty City, Orange Blue, Antoine Poncet, Chinawear, and Flow
As always, our beautiful city is full of events and goings-on, but art exhibitions are easily overlooked as there are so many opening, it can be hard to miss them. These are our selections for those looking for places to soak up art during the next few weeks. Make sure to get there before the exhibitions close!
Diary of an Empty City
Diary of an Empty City is painter Liu Xiaodong's documentation of Ordos, an architecturally-wealthy ghost city located in Inner Mongolia. The city has stirred dialogue across numerous different platforms due to its empty condominiums and deserted shopping centers and squares. Liu's paintings capture the spaces and evoke a sense of magical realism. If you only have time for one exhibition, make it this one. Tue-Sun 10am-6pm until October 18. Faurchou Foundation
Orange Blue
Orange Blue: In the Process of a Film, Cheng Ran Solo Exhibition exhibits Cheng Ran's process of creating his nine-hour long film In Course of the Miraculous. It shows how the artist collected props and documents each step of film production; sorting, destruction, rebuilding, and exploration. Tue-Sat 11am-5pm until November 12. YUAN Space
Chinawear and Flow
Ubi Gallery is currently exhibiting two Dutch collections: Chinawear, a collection from Peter Hoogeboom's early years as inspired by travel to Southeast Asia and China, and Flow by Bab Haenen, which was produced following several years he spent in Jingdezhen, the city pottery is said to originate from. Tue-Sun 11am-8pm until October 20. Ubi Gallery
Antoine Poncet and Feng Xiaomin
This exhibition looks at Antoine Poncet and Feng Xiaomin's exhibition titled The Masters of Shapes and Colors. The sculptures and paintings demonstrate a wonderful cultural exchange and collision of ideas and tradition. Daily 11am-6pm until October 18. Yishu 8
