Talking Entertainment: Cute Dog Brings Happiness Home

Happy Friday, here's the lowdown on entertainment options around the city this weekend. Chinese Spring Festival flicks seem to be all the rage this month. After the low-budget comedy Lost in Thailand broke records over New Year, a new comedy about a lost dog trying to get home rocked the box offices last week. According to Chinese media reports Bring Happiness Home earned over RMB 100 million in the first nine days of its release and is furiously competing with kung fu action flick The Grandmaster. All major cinemas are playing the comedy in Mandarin. If cute dogs are your thing and you enjoyed Lost in Thailand, Bring Happiness Home is worth the trip to the theater. Watch the trailer below.

C!Talk, a collective which brings local talent together in Beijing is holding their monthly show on Saturday at BC MOMA. This month’s show includes magic, heyrobics, and a Buddhist music ensemble. Entrance is free, but RMB 30 pre-sale tickets are available to raise funds for The Dandelion School of Beijing.

Niko de La Faye from M2B project amused us all last spring with his ride to Shanghai on a kinetic tricycle. He is screening videos of his trip at Zajia on Sunday. And Pekin Fine Arts has some interesting pieces on show from Chen Shaoxiong. His ink paintings of demonstrations are based on news photographs he downloaded from the internet. The ink scenes dramatically highlight the action and emotion of the photos and will be on display until February 15.
