Topshop and Topman in Beijing? The Exclusive at FEI
Up until now, Topshop and Topman have only been accessible to China residents via their online websites. All that’s about to change.
FEI Space – a concept store in 798 that’s been likened to New York’s Opening Ceremony (by us), a “genteel flea market” (by Stylites.net) and “a creative bazaar” “with a salvaged-chic vibe” (by the New York Times) – sits at the helm of Topshop and Topman's entrance into the Chinese mainland market.
Starting July 23, Topman will be available in Beijing exclusively at FEI. Ladies, unfortunately we’ll have to wait until October for Topshop’s arrival.
The two UK high-street brands fit right in with FEI's basic ethos, which co-owner and creative director Ray P. Lee has described as "connecting the worlds of fashion, art and design, China and overseas, established and emerging." Other labels currently stocked by FEI include local talents like Zhang Da (designer of Hermes’ new Chinese label Shang Xia), as well as international favorites like Alexander Wang, Gareth Pugh and Henrik Vibskov.
FEI has also recently finished with its new seasonal adaptation of the space. Bespoke Beijing wrote a more detailed article on the renovations here. See photos below.
Lee tells us, “This time our intention was to make the space easier to read ‘retail.’ We get accused all the time of not nearly being commercial enough.”
What do you guys think? Was it a success? Read more of his thoughts on the redesign (and on sex saddles and brides getting photographed in 798) in our interview with him in our upcoming issue.
