U-S-A, U-S-A: Celebrating America's Birthday in Beijing

The United States of America (also known as the United States, the US, the USA and America – thanks, Wikipedia) celebrates its independence this Monday and for many, many Beijingers it's an excuse to act even more American than usual. Local Canadian blogger Beijing Boyce has already offered some ideas for where his cousins-to-the-south can celebrate and we've got some more for those who have made no plans for face paint and fireworks yet.

The usual pro-American suspects of the Saddle, Kro's Nest, Lush, Pyro, Fubar, Luga's Villa, Stumble Inn, Union, Paddy's and Blue Frog will likely be jam-packed like it's a presidential election, but here are some other options.

The Culture Yard is holding an Independence Day Cook Out, which might be like a barbecue or Bar-B-Q or BBQ. There is also a hot dog-eating competition, which an American will likely win. NOLA – short for New Orleans, Louisiana – shows Treme, the New Orleans-set television series, each and every Monday. The Fourth of July is no different and why should it be? Comfort food from the American South and the best show currently on the box is a surefire winner.

Casa Latina serves Mexican food and has a Cuban house band which means it is as American as Taco Bell. Monday is industry night – the industry in question is the F&B industry. Show your business card and get 30% off. That should put anyone in the party spirit. That and the potent cocktails anyway.
