Frankly I find self-righteous people a lot more irritating than self-indulgent people.

Re: Three days left to eat for Haiti!
Perhaps all those people worrying about a dining out benefit for Haiti being too self-indulgent should organize an event where participants pay to be crushed under collapsed building debris.

Re: Three days left to eat for Haiti!
You make a show of your help. Oh, you're such a generous and caring person. That's great. Do you want a clap? I mean, it's great that you're helping and all, and if it's a "good job" that you're looking for, then, good job.
However, Kristen's initiative is generating money born from a brilliant idea that doesn't ask people to change their lifestyles. We're targeting a certain group of people that live here and it's bringing results. Why do you feel a need to put others down? Isn't the main goal to get help to Haiti? If you ask me, that's all it's about. People who bleed, breathe, and need love just like myself need help. We're trying to help.
In some ways, we're using tactics that a corporation might use to target a certain demographic. Bottom line is, it's quite effective. Not trying to brag because that's not what it's about. At the end of the day, it's just about being able to smile and know you helped another human being.
So instead of trying to bring another person down with the same goal as you, why don't you try to see through a different lens, even if it may not necessarily be one that you agree with. At least, you can understand where their coming from. You might even end up supporting it.

Re: Three days left to eat for Haiti!
Remedy - Until you find a better way to raise more than 200,000 RMB in one week, there is really no need for your negative comments. Don't hate on those who are actually doing good. It's unpleasant and unnecessary.
Speaking of concerts:
Funk*Fever presents...
Hope For Haiti Concert
On January 12, disaster struck the poorest nation in the western hemisphere, when a 7.0 level earthquake razed the Haitian capital of Port-Au-Prince. As the death toll skyrockets and with access to basic necessities still scarce, Haiti is in dire need of funds for both immediate relief and long-term rebuilding.
This February 3, at 7:30 pm, we invite you to join us at Yugong Yishan to enjoy a very special night of music and dancing, with all ticket proceeds going directly to those in need!
We’ve assembled a great line-up of bands and DJs playing a powerful blend of Afro & Caribbean rhythms: Reggae, Funk, Soul, Afrobeat and Drum & Bass. 100% of your 50 RMB entrance ticket, as well as 10% of all bar takings, goes to Partners In Health (www.standwithhaiti.org), a grassroots organization that has been working on the ground in Haiti for over 20 years. Our goal is to raise 50,000 RMB through tickets and donations, so come and get down to help others get up!
Featuring:
Bands -
The Verse - Beijing’s one and only 10-piece funky big band!
Afrokoko Roots - A terrifically international Afrobeat powerhouse band, 15-members deep!
DJs -
MeiWenTi Sound Project - Beijing’s very own Reggae, Dub & Dancehall clan
Funk*Fever - Five Funky DJs & one potent percussionist, hard Funk & beats for your Soul
Blackie & Slide (The Syndicate) - Local Drum & Bass heavyweights, the fittest of the fittest
+ more exciting acts to be confirmed!
In cooperation with the Global Times, Yugong Yishan and the Haiti Rise campaign

This reminds me of South Park, Episode 105: Starvin' Marvin.

Re: Three days left to eat for Haiti!
Remedy - isn't the point that money is being raised for Haiti? If you donated directly that's great. And Kristen's initiative should be applauded too. From what she has said above there is a whole lot of money gong to Haiti that otherwise might have gone to other things. I'm sure people on the ground in Haiti don't care how the money is raised, so long as the assistance reaches them.

Re: Three days left to eat for Haiti!
Remedy, you are missing the point of this initiative, which was my idea. I created this campaign, which was put together and up and running within 5 days.
Everyone involved in the Haiti Rise relief campaign understands the gravity of Haiti's current situation and we desperately wanted to help.
Expecting or asking people to individually donate money will only get you so far. If you rally people together for a good time to support a good cause, that will get you results.
We have organized the Haiti Rise campaign to give people in Beijing a means of contributing and doing their part to help the people of Haiti.
We are not asking people to live lavishly while people in Haiti are suffering. We are asking people to support the restaurants who want to donate to Haiti. The participating restaurants have joined together and found a brilliant way of donating to Haiti while also getting tons of people involved.
While we have many generous donations coming in separately from the initiative, this is a social activity to join people together for a good cause.
If you doubt the effectiveness of my campaign, the numbers here speak for themselves.
We started the Haiti Rise Campaign on Friday, Jan. 22. Below is an update on funds raised by HAITI RISE as of Feb 1st:
* On Jan 22, the HAITI RISE launch event @ The Bookworm, we raised 103,000 RMB. Transfered directly to PiH on the evening of the 23rd.
* On Jan 30, BLING's Model Citizen auction event alone raised over 53,000 RMB. To be transfered to PiH on Feb 2nd.
* This past week, through our EAT FOR HAITI VOUCHERS*, an minimum estimate of 45,000 RMB has been raised and will be sent to PiH on Feb 4th.
* This brings us to a current total of 201,000 RMB!
Based on the great success of the campaign thus far, we have decided to raise the bar to a new goal of 250,0000 RMB.
FYI. All funds raised by HAITI RISE go directly to Partners in Health (PiH) - an organization that has been providing medical services on the ground in Haiti for over 20 years. For more details see, www.standwithhaiti.org
Remedy - if you want to help Haiti, then you should support our initiative rather than put us down. We have sold more than 450 vouchers in a week's time, and I for one am so proud of how much we have raised for Haiti in such a short amount of time!

Re: Three days left to eat for Haiti!
This is kinda sick. You think it's appropriate to show solidarity with people who don't have enough to eat by gorging on luxury foods? What kind kind of out-of-touch ignoramus came up with this idea?
why don't you show them who's who by giving them money for a meal but don't eat.
