House of Dynasties Launches Cantonese Dim Sum

If you're looking for a classy dim sum place for out-of-town guests or just a group of friends, then you might want to consider Rosewood Beijing's recently relaunched House of Dynasties. The elegant fourth floor space, previously focused on Cantonese private dining, has recently introduced a dim sum lunch menu, cooked up my Hong Kong master chef Ng Wing Fu. The private dining structure of the restaurant remains, with eight beautifully appointed dining rooms, each themed after a different Chinese dynasty.

Dim sum is available a la carte, but until the end of October they are offering a great deal on a set lunch menu, with parties of four dining for the price of two at RMB 440, and parties of eight for the price of four at RMB 880. In case you can't do the math, that's RMB 110 per person (plus service charge), a pretty good deal for dim sum in a setting like this.

The dim sum classics are well-executed, including some incredibly soupy xiaolongbao (RMB 28 a la carte) and lacquered barbecue pork puffs (RMB 28) enhanced with sweet apple. Our table favored the har gow (RMB 36), with asparagus alongside the usual shrimp. Don't forget an order of barbecue belly pork (RMB 88 as if there wasn't enough pork already), the friable skin the perfect foil for the silky fat.
