Chaoyang-Lido Area Guide

If you’ve ever felt daunted by the size of the area stretching from Chaoyang Park to Lido, relax: The newest map in the Immersion Guides’ Area Guide series lays it all out for you. With not only an overview but also several detailed insets, this is the only map you’ll need. Whether you’re seeking neighborhood schools and dentists, planning a whirlwind night out, shopping for the perfect housewarming gift, or just craving a soothing massage session.

Surreal statuary and mirrored clubs fill the Chaoyang Park area, armed with a Chaoyang-Lido map you can find your way from champagne cocktails to delicious baozi (the size of a small planet!) and back again. You don't have to know what a brauhaus is to love a cold pint or a tasty wurst, all available in the Lufthansa Center and Liangmahe neighborhood. Further north, Lucky Street (Haoyun Jie) is home to a hit-and-miss series of restaurants and bars, though there are a few gems and standbys to be found. Fans of authenticity should perhaps instead join the shochu-powered Japanese embassy workers and business people at the izakayas and teppanyaki joints on Anjialou.

Alcohol-soaked Super Bar Street (Xingba Lu) also promises nightlife and dining options a-plenty, ranging from the curiously high-end to the uncompromisingly seedy. The perfect end to a day of shopping at Ladies’ Street (Nüren Jie)? To round it all up, the Lido area is a self-sustaining ecosystem unto itself, with international-standard hospitals and schools, restaurants of all persuasions, design-centric shops, salons and even the odd bar or two. You may almost forget to leave – until, perhaps, a glance at the map reminds you that there’s still so much more out there, and it’s only a short ride down the Airport Expressway to the rest of Beijing.

You’ll find the Chaoyang-Lido Area Guide inserted into the October issue of that’s Beijing.
