Backstage Pass: Keren Ann

As the hipster would say, you’ve probably never heard of Keren Ann. Only you really probably haven’t. A big hit in Europe,
she moved to the US a few years ago to make the step up, and it still hasn’t really happened for her.

The buzz
Mainly on the downlow. Ever year for the last five has been the one when Ann has been meant to “break.” At 37, she might be beginning to feel that has passed her by. Still, she has an unwavering underground fan base who are thrilled
that they don’t share her with the mainstream.

Key tracks
“My Name Is Trouble,” “Lay Your Head Down,” “Chelsea Burns”

She says:
“Every musician wants more recognition. I think I’m ready for it.”

We say:
Surely Keren Ann’s time will come. In true hipster form, we could say we saw her before she got astronomical.
