Beijing News You Might Have Missed this Week, Aug 21

Beijing is a happening city! Don't miss a thing with our weekend roundup of the latest news.

Egypt in Beijing: The famous golden mummies of Egypt have landed in Beijing for the first time and are now on display in Haidian district at the Beijing World Art Museum. The exhibit shows off two mummies along with their 3D scans.

Return of the weekend, but vax required?: Several Sanlitun venues that had previously closed or implemented reduced hours have returned to normal operation now that the situation regarding COVID has calmed in the capital. The CBD area, however, appears slow to follow suit, with some venues maintaining reduced hours.

However, several bars around town, including Paddy O'Shea's and Groovy Shiller's have said they have received a mandate to require that all customers must show proof of vaccination when entering. It remains to be seen how wide spread this practice will become.

No more delays for Beijing schools: Schools will not delay the start of the new academic year and will require nucleic acid tests for all students within 48 hours of the first day.

EF steps in where Wall Street left off: After Wall Street English announced bankruptcy this week, EF swooped in, saying it would provide online classes to those left teacherless by the closure.
