Events That Won't Leave You Hungover, Aug 26-Sep 1

We take a break after the weekend, putting down our drinks to take a more productive look at what's going on around Beijing. Here is our top pick of this week's events that won't leave you hungover...

Anti-Social Mondays
Caravan gives us a reason to look forward to Mondays with the return of their "Anti-Social" promotion. The premise is simple: turn up by yourself (the best kind of company) or with friends, hand over your phone behind the bar, and proceed to get 50 percent off your entire food bill. Not only will you leave full and with a healthy WeChat Wallet balance, you stand to feel enriched by the lack of social media in your life for just a couple of short hours. Mondays, 6pm-late. Caravan

Accomplished Seattle-born sisters Chloe and Asya Saavedra, who previously went by Smoosh, stop by the capital to infuse it with their own brand of electronic pop as Chaos Chaos (also pictured at top). Now based in Brooklyn, the pair have an impressive record, having previously toured with the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Cat Power, and Sleater Kinney. RMB 160, RMB 120 (advance). 8.30pm. The Digital Hand: How China's Corporate Social Credit System Conditions Market Actors
With the nationwide implementation of China's Social Credit System (SCS) looming, corporations operating in China will need to undergo notable administrative changes upon adoption of the new regulations. With that in mind, the European and German Chambers of Commerce invite you to join a comprehensive discussion on the implications of the incoming SCS so as to mitigate any "acute disruptions" foreign companies may soon face. RMB 800, RMB 400 (members). 6-9pm. Kempinski Hotel Beijing Lufthansa Center

The Merchant of Venice Screening
Join The Bookworm on Friday for a screening of the acclaimed Shakespeare's Globe rendition of The Merchant in Venice, which showed two years ago in Beijing's NCPA. Set in 16th century Venice, the drama follows the dark tale of a deal gone south, where anti-semitic merchant Antonia must realize his gruesome promise to the slighted Jewish moneylender Shylock. Shakespeare's highly-charged piece comments on the "competing claims of tolerance and intolerance, religious law and civil society, justice, and mercy" that remain relevant to this day. RMB 120. 7.30pm. The Bookworm

Saturday, Aug 31

The Beijing Flea Market Bye Summer Edition
The Beijing Flea Market, your one-stop-shop for any and all goods, is back and better than ever this Saturday. Hosting at its usual location in Sanlitun's TechTemple, the market will accommodate over 40 vendors stocked with everything you may desire, ranging from delicious handmade food to versatile gifts and home furnishings. Free. Midday-6pm. TechTemple

Sunday, Sep 1

Datafiction: An Experimental Video Game
Technology simultaneously aids us and has the ability to become a weapon. As human beings grapple with the increasingly omnipresent state of technology, we are forced into a passive state of self-evaluation. In Datafiction, artistic duo Marco Buetifokor and Lotte Meret Effinger have created an experimental video game in which players pose as an "immaterial digital entity," navigating the program's protocols, software, and data-centers to create a fragmented narrative of their own. Free. Tue-Sun, midday-6pm. Goethe Institut China

There are plenty more fun, exciting (and even boozy) events in our Events section here.
