EAT: Mercante's 7th Anniversary, Al Pastor at Pebbles, Cassoulet at Caravan

EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.

Mercante's 7th Anniversary

With so many closures and changes in the hutongs over the past couple of years, it's great to see a restaurant like Mercante surviving and thriving. Thriving so well, in fact, that it is celebrating its seventh anniversary. Join them to mark the occasion on Sunday, Jan 27 from midday-6pm for free-flow prosecco for just RMB 100 and BOGOF Aperol spritzes and kitchen snacks. From 6-10pm, they will also be serving a “Seven Years Set Menu” for RMB 200. For more information or to make reservations, email mercante.home.cuisine@gmail.com or call 8402 5098.

Tacos Al Pastor at Pebbles

This Wednesday, Jan 23 is the first of what will probably be many al pastor taco nights at Pebbles. Al pastor (pictured at top) is a dish of spit-grilled pork similar to shawarma, influenced by Middle Eastern immigrants to Mexico. The tacos also feature homemade tortillas and are served with six different homemade salsas. Get your taco for RMB 20 each or buy two and a pint of Slow Boat Zombie Pirate Pale Ale for RMB 60. More details on that Pebbles x Slow Boat collab here.

Don't miss Palms LA Liangmaqiao's closing deals

As we blogged yesterday, Palms LA have announced the closure of their Liangmaqiao restaurant after four years of dishing out Mexican-Korean fusion and weighty cocktails. To commemorate such, they're sending the location off with a bang with some big discounts throughout this week (these replace their regular happy hour), including 30 percent off your entire bill (while supplies last, not valid for lunch sets) from Jan 21-25 and 50 percent off all orders from Jan 26-27.

Wednesday night cassoulet at Caravan

There are a few dishes we like to reach for when the winter really sets in and cassoulet is one of them. Hailing from the Languedoc region of France, cassoulet is a rich, slow-cooked casserole containing meat and white beans. Caravan's version using duck legs and merguez sausages is popular in Morocco; sample it for RMB 85, with specials on wine at RMB 40 per glass or RMB 180 per bottle. Bistro 108 also has a special on cassoulet this week, priced at RMB 128 including a glass of wine. Their version features homemade pork sausage and duck leg confit.
