What's Up in Beer: Maovember Closing Party, Milkshake Stout at Slow Boat, Stout Tasting at El Nido

What's Up in Beer is our weekly rubdown of all things ale and suds. Lather yourself in the latest beery news, gossip, and openings all the while forgetting what exactly it was that you were meant to be doing. Don't worry, beer can fix that too.

Another Year, Another Maovember Closing Party

The close of November marks the end of another Maovember, and the campaign that has been hosting charity fundrasing events all over the city for the past month goes out with a bang at Paddy O'Shea's from 8pm onwards. There'll be special drinks for the occasion, live music, a raffle, various games, and lots and lots of beer. P.S. if you're not quite ready to say farewell to Maovember, they're also teaming up with the organizers of tomorrow's SantaCon event, aka: stumbling through the streets of Beijing dressed as everyone's favorite fictional fatty in red.

Slow Boat's New Chocolate Milkshake Stout Sounds Like Liquid Sex

Why hello there, Imperial Waters Chocolate Milkshake Stout (8.5 percent, 20 IBU), what brings you to this bar? Oh, you're in town for a winter trip? I'm not usually this forward but would you like to sit with me on this chilly evening and let me cradle you in my warming hands? And thus begins your love affair with this black beauty, which is as "big and boozy as its name suggests," according to Slow Boat. Brewed with cocoa powder and dry-hopped with cacao nibs, this chocolatey, ultra-rich stout takes its name from the Grand Canal, the artificial river that flows nearly 2,000km from its northern terminus in Beijing to Hangzhou. Though we don't really know how this relates to the beer at hand, none of that matters after one thick sip.
