Burger Lovers Card: De Refter's Bao Burgers are Creative Fusion Treats

Burgers and bao: a winning combination if ever there was. At least that's what former Slow Boat chef and current co-owner at De Refter, Clement Rol, thought when he dreamed up the latest addition to the Burger Lovers Club Card. The recently revamped Belgian-style brasserie has become a renowned fusion food destination thanks to Rol’s take on gua bao, steamed bun and meat combos popular in Fujian and Taiwan.

Among the different bao burgers on offer at De Refter is the BB "Beef Brisket" Bao (RMB 48), which immediately wins points for presentation because it arrives on traditional Chinese bamboo steamers. It's cute, the bun is plush and bready, and Rol has tossed in an irresistible European twist: succulent slow-cooked beef brisket, along with fried garlic, buttery bok-choy, caramelized onions, Parmesan cheese, and Sichuan pepper mayonnaise, making this one absolute winner of a sandwich.

If beef isn’t your meat of choice you can instead opt for the Drunken Beijing Duck Bao, the BB Bao, Golden Chicken Bao, the vegetarian Touched by Truffle Bao, or the Fish & Bao. We were impressed by many of these sandwiches during a recent visit where we mixed and matched with a tableful of friends, and we look forward to returning when De Refter serves up seasonal bao readied by guest chefs in the near future.

De Refter's entry on our ever-growing Burger Lovers discount club makes for a very fetching deal: participants get a free Tennent's draft or Lindemans Kriek draft with the purchase of any bao (available Monday to Friday 5pm-midnight, and 3pm-9pm on weekends).

Subscription to our Burger Lovers Club Card is completely free during this trial period. In order to take advantage of the initial deals as well as receive further deals in the future, simply follow the steps below. (You may in fact already have your card – you can check in WeChat by pressing the "Me" tab in the bottom right and then going to Cards & Offers.)
