Happening over the span of eight days during the Mid-Autumn and October holiday – from Sep 28 to Oct 6 to be exact, the Pretty Things Jazz Festival is the perfect excuse to get out of the city and experience a bit of nature while also enjoying jazz. A lot of jazz.

Quartets, duos, and all kinds of jazz outfits will be coming out for the big occasion, from around China and from abroad, from far off places like the UK, Italy, Spain, and New Zealand. Check out the full lineup below.

If you're wondering why the event is listed as happening from Sep 28 to Oct 6 but performances are only happening from Oct 1-6, that's because in the lead up to and after all the performances, there's a big market, the B-Side Market, where all kinds of arts and wares will be available, plus food and drink!

Here you'll find everything from pottery and jewelry to t-shirts and records, and, in the food realm of things, coffee, cocktails, and even beer from the likes of NBeer and Ye Brewing to name a few. Head there in the days before the performances, during the performances, or after, whatever works best.

Wait, Where's it Happening?

The festival will be happening at the picturesque Tanko Moofland Park (檀谷·慢闪公园) in Mentougou district at the foot of Xishan Mountain and Tanzhe Temple. It's a space fit for being in nature with a few comforts from the city center, including local brands like Berry Beans -- they really love setting up shop in far flung spots around Beijing, eh? -- who've come together to make the perfect space for live music, outdoor movies, markets, arts and crafts and much more.

How Does One Get There?

You can go by subway by taking the S1 Line and getting off at Shichang Station (石厂站) and then taking a taxi or Didi to the park (a 7km drive). If going by bus, you can take 931路, 931路桑峪, 948路, M26路, M2路, M32路, or M44路 to Mentougou Nancun Station (门头沟南村站) and walk south to the park.

The Tanko 2023 Pretty Things Jazz Festival is happening from Thursday, Oct 28 to Friday, Oct 6 at Tanko Moofland Park.

*Early bird single day tickets for Oct 1, 3, and 4 are RMB 268/person or RMB 488/two people, RMB 358 for children, or RMB 298/person at the door. Early bird single day tickets for Oct 2 and 5 are RMB 158/person, RMB 258/two people, RMB 208 for children, or RMB 188/person at the door. You can also opt for a weeklong entry pass for RMB 898.
