Beijing releases plans for museum reconstruction: The city released a draft development plan for museum reconstruction from 2023 to 2035 this past Friday, according to China.org.en. The plan states that by the end of 2035, it is expected that there will be two museums for every 100,000 people in Beijing, bringing the total number of museums in the capital to over 460.
To maximize the efficiency of museum construction, the plan proposes two key areas for museum development along the city’s Central Axis and Chang’an Avenue. This is part of the effort to better integrate the city’s urban spatial structure with its cultural heritage.
The plan also seeks to build more museums that are suitable for both traditional and modern cultures, and to improve existing museums so as to provide a more enjoyable and immersive experiences for the public.
Historic Beijing Railway Station Restored to Former Glory: Restoration work on the interior of Beijing Railway Station was recently completed, bringing the 64-year-old station back to its former glory, reports Caixin Global. Restoration work on the interior included refurbishing and rearranging the layout of the station, as well as adding classic light fixtures and other design elements around the station.
For Beijing locals, the Beijing Railway Station is a special part of the city's heritage, as it was one of ten building projects to be inaugurated in 1959 to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. It remains the oldest active, centrally located train station in the capital today.
German Design Exhibition Opens at Tsinghua University Art Museum: "Crossing Parallels: German Design from 1945-1990", opened on Tuesday, Feb 21 at the capital's Tsinghua University Art Museum, according to Xinhua News.
The exhibition features over 300 works from renowned German designers and design schools, including industrial, furniture, textiles and jewelry design. Du Pengfei, executive director of the museum, said the exhibition aims to give the audience a comprehensive understanding of German design and provide references for design theory, practice and education in China.
