Busy Holiday: A Few Things to Do Today in Beijing, Oct 4
The Golden Week has arrived, and to keep you busy from Oct 1 to Oct 7, we’ve compiled daily lists of some of the most interesting events to be found around the capital for the holiday.
Somewhere Downtown: Art in 1980s New York
This new exhibition at UCCA seeks to act as a study and celebration of art as it was in New York in the 1980s, against the backdrop of a city in ruin and neglect, in which artists of vastly different backgrounds created something new.
Somewhere Downtown: Art in 1980s New York is taking place at UCCA until Jan 29. Tickets start at RMB 80 and can be purchased via the UCCA mini program on WeChat ( search UCCA尤伦斯当代艺术中心).
The Counter-Compass of Art Exhibition
This exhibition taking place at the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre showcases the works of three young Chinese artists – An Qi, Tianchang Wu, and Wan Hao – by focusing on their artistic journey and the overlap of their processes in three different sections: Freeze, Deform, and Rebuild.
The Counter-Compass of Art is open at Three Shadows Photography Art Centre’s 3.0 Space in Caochangdi until Oct 12. Reservations can be made via the QR code above.
SHINNN & His Darkness Friends
Come hear a darker side of techno with an industrial bent via the sounds of DJ and music producer R Ξ Π, featuring rough, rapid rhythms combined to create a flashback to the emerging industrial landscape of 1970s and 1980s China. The concert also doubles as a vinyl release party.
SHINNN & His Darkness Friends takes place at BBB on Oct 4, from 8pm onwards.
Cloud Choir and Random Snake at nugget
If dark techno isn’t to your liking, then head over to nugget to hear the electronic sounds of two experimental groups. The first is 随机蛇 Suijishe (aka Random Snake), a music group who delve into sounds guided by synthesizer, drum machine, guitar, as well as a great many other sounds added to each performance.
Then there’s Cloud Choir, an experimental electronic music duo who build up walls of sound, creating a hypnotic experience that makes this not your average music show.
Catch Random Snake and Cloud Choir at nugget on Oct 4, from 9pm onwards. Tickets are RMB 80 at door and come with a drink token.
For the Coming Days:
Nature & Hiking with Avisha Space
Join Avisha Space for a different kind of hiking on Oct 6 (Thursday) in the northern wilderness of Beijing, where you’ll be guided through a series of mindfulness exercises throughout a 9-11km hike in the hills that will put you more at touch with the present moment; creating a more enjoyable hiking experience.
Hikers will depart from Avisha Space’s studio on Thursday, Oct 6 at 7am and will return to Beijing around 5pm. The hike is RMB 390 per person, and spots can be booked by scanning the QR code in the poster.
