Watercube closed: The swimming pool at Beijing’s Olympic Water Cube – or the Ice Cube as it’s come to be known in the era of the city’s Winter Olympic preparation – will be closed to the public from Aug 21 as it begin preparation for the games in February. The announcement states that the public can expect access once again in May of 2022.
Rent Price Inflation Returns: Renters enjoyed a rare period of price decline in Beijing last year as the pandemic reduced demand for move-ins. This summer, however, numbers rebounded for graduation season according to statistics from rental agencies. Prices are expected to steadily dip as we enter the winter period, as is the norm.
Another bug, but not to worry: Headlines of anthrax in Hebei made waves this week as a patient who had come in contact with sheep and cattle apparently contracted the deadly pathogen. Readers need not fret, however, as the disease is not contagious between humans.
Changping eases restrictions: After a week of increased restrictions, we’ve finally seen some sign of relaxation as eight communities in Changping district ended lockdown on Wednesday.
Sour Milk Tea: Popular milk tea chain Nayuki’s Tea has temporarily closed two of its Beijing locations after finding unsanitary practices in preparing drinks as well as use of inferior fruit. The locations are in Xidan Joy City and Chang’an Market.
