[UPDATED: Jul 18] You're Grounded, Beijing: These Airlines Have Called it Quits Over the Coronavirus

[Last updated: Saturday, Jul 18, 8.30am] Given the fast-changing effects of the coronavirus on China's transport systems, we recommend that you contact your airline directly if you're flying out of (or into) Beijing to make sure your flight has not been affected. We'll endeavor to update this blog with additional changes as things develop. Follow our official WeChat account (ID: theBeijinger) and type in the keyword “fly” to automatically receive up-to-date information about flight cancellations and changes to/from Beijing.

If you believe the info below needs updating, please feel free to send a message in our WeChat (ID: theBeijinger) or send an email to: ccco@thebeijinger.com.

Trying to come back to Beijing? Or perhaps trying to leave despite our opinion that staying put is the best option?

Whatever your plans, below we have compiled (and will continue to do so as we get more confirmed information) a list of airlines that have, well, thrown in the towel, so to speak, as far as flying to/from Beijing (and China) is concerned due to the coronavirus health crisis the world is currently trying to contain. We have also endeavored to list countries and regions with travel restrictions below.

The Beijinger's work on coronavirus information has benefited me greatly. I've been challenged to find information on domestic travel for 外国人like me who've been in country for months and who want to return to Beijing, by train, to an existing apartment. What resources are available to explain restrictions? I've been quarantined and already medically cleared for open travel in another Chinese city. What happens when I want to board a train to Beijing? What happens in Beijing at the station exit? What happens at my community gate? Any insights would be welcome.

The border crossings between China and Mongolia were all closed in February, with an anticipated date of reopening on March 2nd. I can't find any information on the web regarding if they have reopened or not, and if not, when they would be "scheduled" (knowing that it is fluid and could change) to reopen.

It would be awesome to have a website the shows the status of ALL Mainland China Border Crossings in Chinese and in English. I am particularly interested in the border crossing in Erlian City, Inner Mongolia. I know it is not a busy border, but for those of us in the NE of China and Beijing, it is the closest and lowest cost visa run.

Please share any information or good resources regarding this Border Crossing between Erlian and Zamin Uud Mongolia.

    Thank you for sharing.

Hi Paul, this is Tobal and I'm one of the staff closely monitoring the fast-changing flight situations that Beijing (and China) is experiencing due to the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (NCP) gripping the world.

Thank you for bringing this update to our attention. As you may have noticed (which you also quoted), our last update with Thai Airways was Feb 1. The airline updated again their situation on Feb 2 (which you noted, too). This is the exact reason why we also made a note at the very beginning of the article for everyone to contact their airline directly prior to a flight to ensure there are no changes or if there are any. Apologies if we made you very worried!

We have already made the necessary update for Thai Airways. Thanks again and stay safe out there!

Dear Beijing Staff- you have seriously got your facts wrong/misrepresented!  Please be careful about making such statements.  I checked your info related to the statement above about Thai Airways where you report the following: According to a notice on the airline's official website at thaiairways.com: “Due to an impact of the novel coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan... flights servicing between Bangkok and mainland China will be cancelled." The affected Beijing flight route is cancelled from Feb 8 til Mar 1. (Dated Feb 1)

The actual report from Thai airways (copied and pasted here) is as follows:
