Beijing's Best Markets, Bazaars, and Fairs During The May Day Holiday
When a holiday approaches, it can feel like you're the only soul in your network who hasn't made plans to get away for a few days. Yet if you're staying in town for the May Day break, you've got nothing to worry about because there are plenty of great events on, including these food, vintage, antiques and craft markets...
May 1-2: Flower Planting Market
If your apartment needs a bit of pepping up with fresh flowers and plants, swing by the Flower and Plant market in Shine Hills. The market will bring together 30 vendors representing the most popular flower and gardening brands and shops in the city, to provide flowers and plants, vintage floral containers, organic food, daily utensils, and fashionable jewelry. May 1-4: White Bazaar
The four-day market brings together vendors who focus on a wide variety of traditional Chinese crafts, ranging from tie-dye products, silver ornamentations, 文房四宝 (wén fáng sì bǎo, a.k.a. calligraphy), embroidery, paper-cutting, and weaving knots. Best of all, each of the participating crafters welcomes you to come and try your hand at the crafts yourself. Free. 10am-8pm. 62 Qianmen Dajie.
May 3: Camera Stylo Vintage Market
At the Camera Stylo vintage market on Friday, there will be over 20 vendors selling vintage clothing, jewelry, antiques, film cameras, and ethnic handicrafts. To make it more exciting, every three hours, they will select a best vintage-dressed guest and present a best-dressed award along with an RMB 200 cash prize at the vintage clothing shop, plus a drink on the house. At 8pm, there will also be a film screening on the rooftop terrace. Free. 1.30-midnight. Camera Stylo
May 3-4: Walking Coffee Map Coffee Festival
More than 20 local specialty coffee vendors – including April and Café, BASIC COFFEE, and Big Small Coffee – will be present at the Walking Coffee Map Festival this weekend, and the event promises to be a java haven for both casual drinkers and coffee experts alike. Feeling jittery already? Don't worry, because there is plenty to do aside from just drinking coffee – festival-goers can also enjoy a fun coffee-themed debate, watch a latte art-making competition, and catch two film screenings. May 3-4: F2N Mayday Market
The popular weekly F2N (Farmers to Neighbors) market is returning to its hutong roots this May holiday, throwing a big courtyard party to celebrate local, sustainable produce. Partnering with BigSmall Coffee and Vanke Boyu Apartments, the market will feature plenty of delicious food, natural skincare products, handmade crafts as well as various fun activities throughout the weekend.
