EAT: Free-Flow Wine at Jing Yaa Tang, Mosto Wine Pop-Up, Chinese Wine Tasting at Caravan, New Summer Menu at Fiume
Start your week as you mean to go on by indulging in a bottle or two at Mosto's latest wine pop-up, happening now until May 10. This time they're bringing together two dozen of the world's hippest wines curated by Le Sommelier International. The wines will be available at wholesale prices to drink at Mosto or take home. The talented minds at Le Sommelier International will also be on hand to offer advice on how to pair the wines with items from Mosto's menu.
On the last day of the pop-up, Mosto's chef Daniel Urdaneta will create a five-course wine-paired dinner with a perfectly paired wine list provided by Ramon Bilbao and curated by Le Sommelier International. Priced at RMB 398 per person, this is a good opportunity to be wined and dined by people who know what they're doing.
Speaking of wine (and aren't we always), this Wednesday (May 9), Caravan in holding a special blind tasting of 12 Chinese wines, including whites, reds, and bubbly, from China's main wine producing regions. They will have wines from Hebei, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Shandong, and, of course, Shanxi. Chinese wines are on the up and up but some are still wary to try them, so this blind tasting will you to get to know the wines without judgment. The tasting is priced at RMB 88 per person and includes snacks.
Also this Wednesday, Jing-A team up with the winners of last year's Pizza Cup, Pie Squared, for a Pizza Party takeover. The Shunyi-based pizzeria takeover Jing-A's Xingfucun kitchen to serve two of their original Detroit-style square slices (Classic American and Veggie) as well as two special Jing-A collaboration slices (Carnivore BBQ and Smokin' Hot Hawaiian). Expect Jing-A beers to also be flowing aplenty.
Seeing as we're on the theme of alcohol this week, there's nothing we enjoy more (apart from wine, that is) than an Aperol spritz once it gets to summer time. If you agree, why not sip one on the terrace at Fiume while checking out their new dinner menu. They have added a number of snacky, cold dishes for the upcoming hot days, as well as new handmade pasta dishes, and Italian pizzas from their sister restaurant, Lievito. The terrace, which is on the banks of the Liangma River, has a feeling unlike any other in Beijing.
Finally, this is a reminder that one of Beijing's best all-you-can-eat deals, the dim sum free flow at Jing Yaa Tang (also pictured at top), just got an upgrade with the option to add free-flow Chandon Brut Classic sparkling wine for RMB 168. As it so happens, Chandon is a Chinese wine, produced in the up-and-coming Ningxia region. We've drunk it before and are sure it will go well with dim sum. Note that the dim sum is available daily but the sparkling option is only available at weekends.
