EAT: New Dishes at Bobomia, Yunnan Cooking Class, Lobster Deal
EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.
Boston lobster deal at Ying
Intercontinental Beijing Sanlitun's Chinese restaurant Ying is currently offering a great deal on lobster. For RMB 298, you get a Boston lobster cooked in your choice of 15 different methods/flavors, including steamed with black bean sauce, baked with cheese and butter, wok-fried with spicy salt or stir-fried with 13 spices. The deal is available daily.
New dishes and deals at Bobomia
The menu at modern Spanish restaurant Bobomia has recently been expanded with some new . As ever, Chef Raul Liu has been inspired by local Beijing ingredients, creating dishes such as the green beans with sesame sauce and caviar, a souped-up version of a Beijing-style appetizer that can be found in restaurants everywhere during the summer. We also loved the addition of jiaobai (茭白, wild rice stem) to traditional gambas al ajillo, adding a wonderful crunch and sweetness. Jiaobai also appears in the Callos Madrileña, which sits somewhere between the Madrid-style slow-cooked tripe dish and Beijing's very-own luzhu (a spiced offal stew), exchanging the traditional chickpeas for tofu.
Those tapas and more are available for 50 percent off on Monday nights with the purchase of any drink. You can also enjoy 50 percent off seafood paella on Tuesday nights, as well as a daily happy hour from midday to 5.30pm with wines by the glass for just RMB 40 (try the Miraflors Rosé).
Sep 4: Taste of Yunnan at The Hutong
While we wouldn't necessarily recommend traveling to Yunnan at the moment, you can learn how to make the province's delicious cuisine at home instead with a cooking class at The Hutong. You'll learn how to make three classic Yunnan dishes: stir-fried seasonal mushrooms with black cardamom, rice cakes with tomato and cured meat, and chicken salad with mint. The class costs RMB 350 per person (or RMB 300 for The Hutong members).
Sep 5: Trio Wine Bar grand opening
After a month and a half of soft opening, Trio Wine Bar in Shangdu Soho is ready for its grand opening.
