EAT: New Set Menu at TRB, Arrow Factory Lunch Specials, Spring Lunch at Opera Bombana, House of Dynasties Dim Sum Deal
It's always great to see an already popular restaurant like TRB keep pushing themselves to come up with new and exciting dishes and concepts. Case in point: TRB's new spring set menu. The five-course set menu, created by chef Johnny Pham, features innovative flavor combinations such as oyster, cucumber, and elderflower. At a recent tasting, our favorite dish was the duck with citrus, a playful riff on both Beijing's eponymous roast duck and classic duck a l'orange. The menu is available for lunch and dinner at both TRB Hutong and TRB Forbidden City, priced at RMB 688 per person. It's worth getting the wine pairing for an additional RMB 468; the pours are generous and, as always, they have picked an interesting mix of higher-end and affordable wines, which can be a boon for those looking for new bottles to drink at home.
Sticking with high-end cuisine, Opera Bombana has put together a frankly extravagant new lunch deal packed with big name ingredients such as New Zealand langoustines, Japanese sea urchin, wild Japanese amberjack, and Australian beef. These ingredients are put to use in a number of new dishes, such as New Zealand langoustines with roasted mushroom ragu and sea urchin, as well as heavy hitters from the dinner menu, such as homemade spaghetti with veal and Iberico pork meatballs. There are two menus, priced at RMB 398 or RMB 598 per person – not an everyday indulgence, perhaps, but certainly a good excuse to push the boat out.
For something a little more casual (and easy on the wallet), try one of the weekly lunch deals at Arrow Factory Liangmahe. You can now get some of the most popular Arrow Factory dishes, including the vegetarian Mexican power bowl, the Rueben sandwich, and the Stuff'd sausage meals, on the lunch menu, all priced RMB 50-60. Add a soft drink for RMB 10, a coffee or tea for RMB 15 or, for those that like to face the afternoon a little buzzed, any Arrow Factory beer for RMB 25.
There are few things we enjoy more than dim sum but one of those things is ... unlimited dim sum. Those who feel the same (so, everybody) can now send themselves into a very stylish carb coma at Rosewood Beijing's elegant House of Dynasties restaurant, where they have recently launched an RMB 198 all-you-can-eat dim sum deal. The menu includes all the usual dim sum dishes, such as har gow, siu mai, steamed spare ribs, and custard buns.
