Have a Wee Dram, Haggis, and Ceilidh to Celebrate Burns Night With the Beijing Scottish Society, Jan 27
On Saturday, Jan 27, the Beijing Scottish Society come together at the Peninsula Hotel for their annual event held in memory of one of the world's most esteemed poets and lyricists, and the greatest Scot to have ever lived (as voted by the Scottish public), Mr. Rabbie Burns.
Yes, Burns Night is one of the biggest dates in the Scottish calendar and is celebrated through a mixture of eating (haggis), drinking (whatever, mainly whisky), and singing, recitals, and tributes to Robert Burns. Once you've made the most of the hearty feast, the festivities will truly warm up thanks to ceilidh dancing to the tune of a live Scottish band.
If your ceilidh is a little rusty, you have no excuse not to brush up given that the ticket also includes two social dance evenings at the British School of Beijing in Sanlitun on Jan 18 and 25, 7-8.30pm. If you've never even done a ceilidh before, we wouldn't sweat it too much – just look at it:
If you can't get any practice in, you'll have plenty of time to prep your courage given that pre-dinner drinks begin at 6.30pm.
Dress code is black tie and evening dress and ladies should remember to bring additional flat shoes for dancing as there are no high heels allowed on the dancefloor.
Individual tickets cost RMB 1,000 or you can book a table for 10 for RMB 9,000. Reserve your place by emailing beijingcaledoniansociety@gmail.com, send a WeChat to oliverbarron, or scan the QR code below. Tickets include pre-dinner drinks, a four-course meal, free-flow whisky, wine, beer, and soft drinks, and all entertainment for the evening.
The Beijinger is proud to be the media sponsor for this event.
