This Week in Fitness: Get on Yer Bike at New SpaceCycle, Gu Cycle, and Base Fit Locations
After an extended absence over the winter months, This Week in Health and Fitness is back just in time for summer, bringing you weekly updates on fitness events, health and wellness, and healthy eating from around Beijing.
It's not often that you associate the words "expansion" or "expanding" with going to the gym but that's just what several of Beijing's popular new fitness brands have been doing recently, launching new locations and bringing each of their unique training styles to new customers.
First up is SpaceCycle, which has opened a second Beijing location in the new section of the China World Mall. The clue to SpaceCycle’s signature offering is the name: upbeat spin classes set to the latest, greatest beats. It’s not all about spin, however, and in fact, we prefer their non-spinning classes. SpaceCycle offers barre classes at varying levels of intensity and core-focused yoga classes, including a challenging new yoga style that they call Sculpt Yoga. Real talk: that location in China World Mall is going to be pretty hand considering the number of tempting restaurants there are in that development. It also means that they are able to host frequent events on the Mall's public terrace, which has some pretty eyecatching views of the CBD as most know by now.
Check out their website, WeChat (ID: spacecycle) or app to purchase and book classes.

Gu Cycle has done pretty much the opposite, going from the CBD to Sanlitun. The studio is in the recently renovated Pacific Century Place. Inspired by America’s cult-like Soul Cycle, Gu Cycle sells its 45-minute spin classes as a “party on a bike,” with ever-changing playlists and a funky black-lit studio. They only use upmarket Schwinn stationary bikes and Shimano shoes. If you’re new to spinning, they offer a Gu Cycle Light class to help you find your form and rhythm. Follow them on WeChat at gucycleapp or download their app to purchase and book classes.

We've also had word that Base Fit (which grew out of former Tuanjiehu studio Living Bigg) will open a new studio in the Chaoyangmen area over the next month or so. Base Fit is currently located in Xingfu'ercun and has gained a loyal following for their fun, functional training style. We'll have a more detailed update on that soon.
