How to Buy Tickets to Beijing International Film Festival Showings of 'The Big Short,' 'Alien' Trilogy

The week-long Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) kicks off on April 16 and wraps up on April 23. So far, organizers have announced a couple of batches of the films that will be showing at the festival, but there will be more to come.

Personally, I’m most looking forward to seeing the Alien Trilogy, The Big Short (which just won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay), and the 3-D remake of Bernardo Bertolucci's The Last Emperor.

Tickets will be available via online vendors Gewara and Weipiao starting April 9.

Star Wars nerds no doubt remember how to buy tickets via Weipiao by following our instructions in December. For the rest of you, here’s a refresher course:

First, open the “wallet” function on WeChat. After that, scroll down to the Weipiao portal. Screenings and even specific seats can then be selected, while payment is equally convenient via WeChat wallet. From there, a verification number is sent to the users WeChat account, which can then be inputted at the cinema’s specialized vending machines, dispensing the tickets.

If that doesn’t work, you can always go the Gewara option. For instructions on how to do that, click here.

And if you *really* could not be bothered going the Weipiao or Gewara route, (strictly speaking they’re actually one company after they agreed to merge in December), the helpful folks over at 247cinema, the only English-language cinema booking site we know of, told the Beijinger, “we are happy to book tickets on Gewara/Wepiao for our customers if anyone needs any help.”
