Pizza Profiles: Yummy Box Promises Cheese Heaven with Their Deep Dish Chicago Pizza
Our Pizza Cup may be finished for this year and our worthy winners crowned but that doesn't mean that pizza restaurants have finished doing what they do best: serving the ravenous Beijing mashes and we still have a few last places to highlight from this year's contenders list.
In this Pizza Profile we hear from Ryan Xia Zhi Dong, manager at Yummy Box, about what makes their pizza unique.
How long have you plied the trade?
Nine years and counting.
What's your style/pizza philosophy?
We make pizza for every kind of food lover, with a focus on quality ingredients.
In a market crowded with over 100 different pizza shops, what do you do to stand out?
Alongside our New York style pizza, we also offer Chicago style deep dish pizza, Buffalo wings, and a wide variety of beers and other beverages. For large groups, we can even serve a 28-inch party pizza.
What would you say your style is (Neapolitan, New York style, Sicilian, Chicago style, Roman, Californian ...?)
We offer both thin New York style and thick deep dish Chicago style pizza. People are passionate about both styles, and so are we.
What kind(s) of cheese do you use and why?
We use New Zealand mozzarella for freshness, along with classic Parmesan cheese.
Tell us about your standard pizza.
Name: Margarita.
Thick or thin crust? Thin.
Type of sauce? We use a base of fresh tomatoes.
Type(s) of cheese? New Zealand mozzarella.
What else makes it special? We top it with fresh basil leaves. That's the classic way to prepare it.
How many sizes does it come in? We have 10-inch pizza for RMB 48, a 16-inch for RMB 118, and a 20-inch for RMB 138.
Tell us about your most unique pizza.
Name: Chicago deep dish style pizza.
Thick or thin crust? Very thick.
Type of sauce? Tomato.
Type(s) of cheese? Mozzarella.
What other things make it special? It also has spicy peppers and a crispy crust around the edge.
How many sizes does it come in? Our nine-inch wide, two-inch thick, six piece Chicago style pizza costs RMB 168.
