What’s Your 2013 Beijing Foodie Wish List?

We ran down the food highlights of 2012 here, but no matter how far Beijing has come, it seems we always want more. What’s on your wish list for Beijing’s food scene in 2013?

Some suggestions to start with:

Better service
Ah, the never-ending complaint. But how badly do you want it? For instance, would you be willing to start paying tips as standard practice to incentivize good service?

Better ____ food (insert your own region of choice)
Sure, Beijing now has decent Mexican food, Vietnamese food got a kick with 4corners and we’re not hurting too bad for good Indian and Middle Eastern options. But there’s always more to be desired, right? What are you still jonesing for?

Online reservation systems
Jinshisong and Sherpa have us pretty well-covered with online delivery services, and we know Beijingers are not really the reservations types. But if Restaurant Week is any indication, there’s room for us to be a little more planned about our meals. Dining City’s working on setting up an online reservations system but will it work?

Better food in _____ (insert your area of the city)
Lido, the Gulou area and Xiaoyun Lu have all seem some great developments in the last year, but what areas do you wish had better or more food options?

Specific dishes
Do you wish you could get good menudo in Beijing? Or Hainan chicken that matches the slipperiness and down-home satisfaction of Singapore's hawker stands? Chilli crab? Carne asada fries? Oatmeal spinach meat loaf? Huge puffy donuts? Falafel soup? (If only Dini's were more dependable in this regard ... )

You get the idea. Let the wishing begin! Tell us your deepest desires for eating out in 2013 in the comments section below. Some industrious restaurant owners just might get the message …

I wish for:

- more international restaurants in Shuangjing (especially a new branch of Home Plate down south). A Jenny Lou's or April Gourmet wouldn't hurt either.

- Food trucks

- more Cajun food

- Real doughnuts

- for all the crappy restaurants in the Wanda Plaza to close down and be replaced by more edible options ...
