Talking Pints: New Bar Reconnaisance Reports and the First Christmas Bash of the Season

The Slow Boat Brewery Taproom is almost ready. They're still on course for their maiden voyage on December 15 and we're set to get a sneaky peek around the space this weekend. You can expect a review here at some point next week. They've also announced that their Anchor Imperial Vanilla Stout was the clear winner in their crowd sourced beer contest with 37% of the vote. They'll tap the first keg of the chosen brew at a special launch party on December 16.

Still with Slow Boat, looking to hit the ground running, they've already announced some details of upcoming events in the new taproom including "Brew Year's Eve" when they will "have discounted drafts, party hats, mulled wine, and a Champagne toast at midnight to help you and your friends send 2012 off in style." Additionally, they've provided some details of their regular events:

  • Brewsday Tuesday will mean discounted beer deals from 8-10pm;
  • Thursdays will mean RMB 55 Pitchers from 6-8pm;
  • And Friday will be Flight Night when they will offer 3, 5 or 10 200ml samples at discounted prices.

Not to be outdone by the permanent mooring of Slow Boat, Great Leap have announced that they're set to open a "huge" new space near the Red House, behind the Holiday Inn just off Chunxiu Lu. Watch this space (or that) for more details.

Upon learning recently about the imminent arrival of Jane & Hooch over in Sanlitun, we sent a sleuth over to scout out where it might be located, as the developers are keeping pretty tight-lipped about the project for now. Our findings: we're pretty sure the site will be in the building next to Qu'er Cafe, with the entrance facing directly down the street where Brussels is. Work on the entrance was still ongoing, but it all looks fairly intact on the inside. And we've deduced that if the space is not Jane & Hooch, then it's definitely going to be a bar.

Sanlitun SOHO wine retailer/bar California Grapes has launched a ladies night. It will take place between 5 and 10pm on Thursdays when they will shift free house wine to all the ladies in attendance.

Now to this weekend's goings on:

  • Black Sun Bar at Chaoyang west gate will host a "Going Away for Xmas party" tonight (Dec 7) to give those heading off a chance to have a seasonal celebration before they depart. They'll offer a host of drinks deals throughout the night.
  • Mao Mao Chong will be closed tonight (Dec 7) for a private party. And on Sunday (Dec 9) between 12 and 4pm they will offer their final Sunday Brunch of 2012. People who've eaten at MMC in recent weeks have been raving about the food they've been rustling up over there.
  • Chicago's own Joey Figueroa motors to Migas for a night of Chicago Style House as part of their Detroit Series tonight (Dec 7).
  • The Tease Boutique II will take place on Saturday night in an old church in Xuanwumen (85 Tong lin ge lu [佟麟阁路85] to be exact). The first party a couple of week's back was a success, so if your in the mood for a "conceptual party" on Saturday night, you've a place to be.
  • Haze will host the eighth "Let There Be House" night tomorrow (Dec 8) featuring performances from Simon Adams, M. Ross and Patrick Yu.

Don't forget, for more stuff to do over the weekend and beyond, you can check out our events section which currently features over 900 events listings.

Wherever you get to this weekend, have a splendid time.
