To Drink or Not to Drink: Win Tickets to Hamlet at LAN Club

When dealing with themes like murder, betrayal and insanity, isn’t it nice to have a drink in one’s hand, to sorta lighten things up a bit? This, perhaps, is why new theater group WingSpeak brings you Shakespeare’s Hamlet in the Philippe Starck-ified LAN Club, with drinks included in the price of admission. And we're giving away tickets! Don’t worry, the cocktails aren’t some nefarious plot for breaking down the fourth wall, until you the audience are acting out that morbid final scene. Well, at least we hope not.

Beijing has no lack of independent performance groups, but as long as they all endeavor to do things a little differently, I suppose we can make room in this city for another.

As cornball as WingSpeak's new production might sound, the lush opulence of LAN Club will actually serve as a fitting backdrop to wacky takes on The Bard’s greatest tragedy.

The evening will start with some warming up by the folks at Beijing Improv. Then, the Wingspeak crew will perform two tragic scenes from the original Shakespearean text. Finally, they'll top things off with a fast-paced and highly comical 30-minute rendition of the play’s entire plot. We hope by then, you’ll have soaked up enough booze to appreciate the blur of characters, costumes and props.
