The Amazing Race in Beijing?: Check In to Win
Do you work well in groups? Are you tech-savvy? Do you have a good sense of direction? You’ll need all these qualities and more to compete in the upcoming 爱北京, I Race!
Co-organized by Let’s Powwow (a location-based mobile application in the same vein as Foursquare or Jie Pang) and Mashup Sport and Social (a social activities and events community), this citywide race sends its participants all over Beijing to “check in” at various locations and complete mental and physical challenges – all for the chance to win a grand prize of RMB 4,000.
According to the registration website, it works like this: “All teams will start at Solana and finish at Bar Blu. Teams will go from venue to venue completing challenges and getting rewarded. Upon arrival at a venue, teams will check-in at the venue, take a team picture and upload into ‘Let’s Powwow.’ After check-in, teams will be given their challenge. Challenges will either be mental (thinking involved) or physical (eating, drinking, drawing, jumping, running, etc.). After the challenge is completed, teams will receive the next location and each team member will receive venue vouchers redeemable at a later date.”
Meanwhile, while the teams are scrambling around Beijing, fans can watch the progress on the big screens at the finish line at Bar Blu.
Interested? Team requirements are somewhat strict, so you’ll have to see if you can gather up a group that will make the cut. If you have more questions, you can contact Nick Aronoff (English) at 135 2281 6992 or Jolly Wang (中文) at 186 1828 5517.
The 爱北京, I Race! takes place on September 25 from 11am-5pm. Early Bird team registration is RMB 400 (before September 12). Regular team registration is RMB 550 (September 13-21). Find more information and/or sign up here: www.letspw.com/race.

Re: The Amazing Race in Beijing?: Check In to Win
Mjtaylor, it is clear to me that we have offended you in some way by trying to do something like 爱北京,I Race! in Beijing. You say we ripped off something, when we simply added a new twist on a popular activity that many people participate in. I am far from "pissy" but simply explaining that we hope that there are some fans of popular shows like Amazing Race that can appreciate an activity similar in spirit here in Beijing. The simple notion that a new company in Beijing might want to promote itself in a unique and in a fun way has been taken as an attempt to misguide and capitalize on the experience of the people participating in the race. We honestly have little interest in exploiting anyone who joins the race and are hoping for new friends and good times While the discounts and prizes may not meet your standards, we are very proud to work with the venues who have put the effort into this race and their contribution to the participants. While we have not gained your support, I still thank you for your honest and canded response and wish you more adventurous and exciting times in Beijing.

Re: The Amazing Race in Beijing?: Check In to Win
Well thanks for the encouragement for a new start up like us. For those interested in enjoying an afternoon exploring Beijing in a fun and active way, this event is for you. There are great prizes, discounts at very nice places and an over all value for all participants far exceeding the huge investment of 100kuai per team member fee. To clarify, transportation is included, although we will say it won't be by taxi. For those who prefer to stay in and watch a pirated DVD, recover from a hang over or simply are not motivated to do much but go to the same places in Beijing you normally do, then it is not for you. Yes we hope to gain some exposure and increase brand awareness - we are a couple of start ups after all, but we also are in this to show our appreciation to the venues, partners and sponsors of such an event. Thanks for reading and giving your thoughts and I hope we will have a little something for everyone in the future.

I love the amazing race (the real one)!!! But, this one seems lame. Not that much money, not that much adventure, not that much anything really.

Hardly seems worth the effort for a measly 4,000 kuai.
