Domestically Produced, High Quality: Brand New China Opens in Sanlitun Village North

Known as the Chinese Oprah, media mogul Hong Huang has set out to dismantle all negative associations with the phrase “Made in China.” Was it difficult for her to fill an entire store with wares that are not only domestically produced but also high quality? Apparently not.

Pulling from over 150 designers, BNC successfully showcases the variety of China, from modern and kitschy brands (NLGX, Plastered T-shirts, mkrt) to high-fashion elegance (Vega Zaishi Wang, Non Season, He Yan).

A modest range of home furnishings and accessories further jazzes up their selection. Keep an eye out for Uma Wang’s grandfather sweaters and Wei Ming Hui’s eco-fashion ties.

For more traditional Chinese flavor, turn to Huang Yichuan’s delicate jewelry (RMB 1,300-3,000) based on Ming dynasty blue-and-white porcelain.

The store’s factory appearance indicates that BNC, just like China’s fashion industry, is still in the making. But the quality stock within proves that Chinese designers will establish their places in the world in no time.

I'm sure these are as good quality as the owner suggests.

But the question is, will there be anything in a size bigger than 'small frame Chinese man'? For the larger westerner, that is the most important question of all.

The problem never was really was quality in China. The problem is value for money. There is a lack of good brands in the middle which are of high quality, but aren't too expensive. This is what is lacking here in a big way -- exp. in the dining area.
