Tomato Perfume Anyone? Demeter Fragrance Library Opens at Sanlitun

Ladies and gents, if you’ve ever wanted to smell like tomato, vinyl or even dirt, Demeter Fragrance Library will realize your craziest aroma fantasy. Founded in 1993 in New York, Demeter specializes in fragrances based on familiar, everyday scents.

Their small, immaculate shop in The Village stocks more than 300 scents, many of which (e.g. cucumber, cigar) are extracted from the real thing instead of being synthesized from chemicals. Come summertime, if you miss the snowdrifts, you can pick up a snow-scented fragrance for RMB 279. Or, for the same price, you can breathe the fresh air of spring by wearing the scent of green grass.
