On the Radar: Baskin Robbins Returns, Berlin Bites, The Loli
American ice cream store chain Baskin Robbins has made a return to Beijing after a long absence, with new shops situated in Haidian. Plus, the food of Berlin gets its chance to shine at the increasingly popular Berlin Bites and chicken "lollipops" with beer is the name of the game at The Loli.

After having left Beijing for quite some time, this popular American ice cream chain has finally returned to the capital as of this June. With two locations that we currently know of, one out by Yuanda Lu and another close to Beijing Sports University, those in the area with a hankering for one or two – or three – of Baskin Robbins’ 31 flavors are in luck.

Berlin Bites
Opened by longtime Beijing residents El-Mar and Sascha Sommerschuh, who hail from Hamburg and Berlin, respectively, Berlin Bites keeps things simple with the best of Berlin street food: doner kebab (lead image) and currywurst. The star of the show is the doner, which is available with chicken, beef, or veggies and with a choice of three sauces -- herb, garlic, or spicy. The currywurst comes with or without fries, which are joined with other sides like potato salad and plenty of drink options. Go for the Berlin Mule, jagermeister with elderflower syrup, lime juice, and ginger ale.

The Loli
Taking over the space previously occupied by natural wine bar Tap Bar à Vin, The Loli specializes in two things: craft beer and chicken “lollipops”. The latter, Frenched chicken drumsticks that resemble the sweet treat of the same name, come with a variety of sauce options, from buffalo to lemon pepper to Kungpao and even General Tso’s flavor.
