What’s Up in Beer: IPA Day Deals, GLB and SBB New Beers, and a Dura Party With NBeer
We're not sure if you noticed but it's hot. In fact, it's so hot that you're probably having trouble reading this because of all of the sweats that is flooding your eyeballs. Not to worry though because we have another 80 years until Beijing becomes "the deadliest place on the planet for extreme future heatwaves." Brilliant. Well, at least there's beer.
Having had a quiet summer so far, Arrow Factory announce that they've rereleased two summery brews back on tap: Raspberry Sour (5.8 percent ABV) and Passion Fruit IPA (6.1 percent ABV). If you're looking to stay lean on the side of your strict beer regimen, they also have three new salads at their Liangma River location: chicken and bacon keto, Mesoamazing (vegan), and Dressed to Kill (vegan) salads, all available for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. Also, their first floor has now reopened following some space-ergonomizing renovations. Head over and enjoy for when it's too hot on the roof.
To celebrate IPA Day on Aug 2, Arrow Factory are also slinging all of theirs for happy hour prices (RMB 10 off per pint). That means you can head over to either the Liangma River location (11.30am-midnight) or the Taproom and Stuff'd (11.30am-10pm) to enjoy discounted pints of The Bitter End Rye PA, A New leaf OIPA, Liangma IPA, Dark Ages Black IPA, and Seeing Double IPA.
Jing-A are also doing something similar, holding an al fresco beer party between 5-11pm on Aug 2 at their Jing-Jing pop-up at The Opposite House, offering happy hour pricing on their three IPAs: Flying Fist IPA, Dongbei IPA, and Airpocalypse Double IPA. Additionally, try their Guava Xanadu, which has just been added to the taps. At their Xingfucun location, they also have a new Baibai Summer Wheat (4.8 percent ABV), a refreshing sipper "brewed with Sichuan peppercorns, Mandarina Bavaria hops, and mandarin orange peel for big notes of sweet ripe citrus fruit and a zesty kick of spice."
Great Leap Brewing’s Three Su Series has birthed a new beer this week – the Lemon Su Kölsch – which is brewed in the style of a kölsch and infused with pineapple, lemon, and Sichuan peppercorns to give it a fresh and punchy aroma. Despite the addition of China's favorite ma ingredient, this 5.4 percent beer is surprisingly easy to drink, with a crisp, light, and refreshing tartness, which couldn’t be more suited for summertime. The beer is now available at both locations for RMB 45.
Slow Boat has two new beers on tap, including a Beihai Bae Blonde Ale with 4.5 percent ABV, which is dry-hopped with Loral hops from the US Pacific Northwest and making for a grassy, floral, and sessionable brew that is perfect for summertime sipping. The second is dubbed a Lil' Limey Bastard with 3.1 percent ABV, which is the smaller cousin of the Limey Bastard Lager, but with a reduced alcohol content (so you can drink more). The blonde ale is on tap now, while the lager will be available this Saturday, Aug 4.
Finally, NBeer teams up with Xian Bar at East Hotel this Sunday, Aug 5 from 3-5pm, for a “Dura with NBeer,” referencing a craze that we had to Google just now in order to find out we're six months late to the party. Other than dancing to Daddy Yankee tracks, there'll be dance, flip cup games, and "surprises." We Beijingers might be too old to have known what dura is, but it doesn’t stop us from having fun, right? Attendees are also encouraged to dress in blue so as to reflect the color of the sea (again, the significance is lost on us!).
