Veg-Jing Out: Miao Veggie Space Set to Disrupt Plant-Based Fine Dining Scene

Veg-Jing Out: Your weekly guide to a guilt-free lifestyle in the capital.

Miao Veggie Space set to disrupt plant-based fine dining scene

Move over King’s Joy, because there’s a new meatless fine-dining joint in town. Last month, Miao Veggie Space landed in Park View Green and by all accounts, it seems poised to give the reigning Michelin-starred plant-based restaurant a run for its very substantial money. Just how substantial you ask? According to Dianping, average prices run RMB 477 per person.

So, admittedly, we’re yet to give it a try. But that doesn’t mean we haven’t been drooling all over the pictures. Aside from the food itself, the interior is absolutely stunning complete with a smokey zen pool and private dining rooms. Don't be fooled though, this is shameless bourgeois dining at its finest – read, tiny portions plated to perfection – but we’re not above a bit of capitalism with a side of food every once in a while.

New week, new menu additions

Well, well, well… we’re coming to the end of another week in Beijing and that means it’s time for another roundup of all the new vegan and vegetarian menu options around town! First up is Arrow Factory’s wholly unique vegan doner kebab (RMB 70) made from TVP fried with cumin and wrapped in some homemade naan bread stuffed with fresh shredded veggies, almond-based mint yogurt, roasted red peppers, and garlic sauce. Great, just what we need, another mouthwatering vegan option from Arrow Factory. Sometimes, my friends, too many options are not a good thing. Side note: we have it on good authority that the restaurant is currently waiting on a delivery of TVP, so there’s a slight chance the kebab won’t be available if you visit this weekend. But we've also been assured that next week should be fine.

Next up is a new set lunch menu over at The Local, which includes a Zrou meatless taco bowl with Zrou’s plant-based ground meat, black beans, grilled peppers, onions, pico de gallo, and guacamole sitting atop some healthy steamed rice! The lunch set runs RMB 75 and comes with a free iced tea, with optional hot or iced coffee for RMB 25 and milkshake, fresh juice, or banana split for RMB 30.

La Medina launches new Zrou menu with Vegans of Beijing

Lastly, La Medina – the newest venture from former Mezza owner, Adel Rakrouki – teamed up with Zrou for a brand new meatless menu of North African, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean fusion favorites that’ll launch this Sunday, Aug 1, with an event hosted by Rakrouki and Vegans of Beijing.

From 6-9pm, VoB members can enjoy 20 percent off every dish on the menu which includes hummus with Zrou, lentil soup with Zrou, Zrou vegetable curry samosa, Zrou baba ganoush, warakenab stuffed with Zrou, shakshuka eggs & Zrou, and tabbouleh salad with Zrou. Spots are limited to 20 guests, so scan the QR code in the poster above to reserve yours. Likewise, we’ll have a special feature on Rakrouki and the new Zrou menu next week, so stay tuned for that!
