Drunken Agoraphobes of Beijing Rejoice: Kuaipijiu.com Launches
Beijing can be a difficult place to live, we all know that, there's no reason to dwell on the obvious. But just occasionally, it can be a wondrously convenient place to live. How many other places in the world can you get McDonald's delivered to your front door at 4am? And if I open the fridge in the morning and find there's no milk left for my Frosties, one short phone call down to the neighbourhood convenience store later, and you better believe my Frosties are swimming in creamy goodness.
The internet continues to make it easier to get by day-to-day without leaving the comfort of your armchair. We can chat, browse, shop, date, watch and listen from our laps. But possibly the greatest use of the internet we've encountered yet is one of its latest: the ability to purchase imported fine ales at reasonable prices and have them delivered to your front door.
In a move that's likely to prove most popular with our inebriate readership - some of whom we caught up with at our recent New Music Showcase (please return the goat, guys. We met your ransom demands) – Kuaipijiu.com – has launched.
Offering a range of beers for different occasions, Kuaipijiu.com endows us with the option to sup at home more easily than ever before. There are the regular choices (white, dark, yellow and red) before the collection gets slightly more peculiar offering specialist women's, party, business and wedding beers amongst others.
They can deliver any time between 9am and 7pm, meaning you can have a beer breakfast and supper from home if you so wish. A scan around the Chinese-language only website revealed a dearth of non-Continental European options. Perhaps it was a little optimistic to expect an Irish stout or an English bitter section, but fans of German and Eastern European grog will be well served. And who knows how the ingenious concept will develop over time.

Drive Thru is a good service but the prices are pretty inflated. I can get Hoegaarden bottles at J-lou's for 11RMB when they are on special (which is very often) and at Heaven supermarket for 14RMB any day. Drive Thru is 20RMB a bottle. Pretty much 50-100% more expensive than other stores across the full range of bottles.
I ordered a bunch from kuaipijiu to be delivered today... will se how they go, they already called to confirm a time and were nice on the phone. Ordered from the American beer and hard lemonade range.
^ Herojuana, get the Google Chrome extension which automatically translates Chinese websites in English, worked well for me and registration was easy. Only had to write my address in Chinese and speak Chinese on the phone.
