I've been in Beijing long enough to not really worry much about service or expect much. Today though, the Rosewood staff took the cake in terms of some of the worst attitude i encountered anywhere in this city.

You're in a beautiful ballroom, surrounded by the world's finest Bordeaux wines and a army of well dressed staff that are looking like they never saw a foreigner in their life.

A simple request to check in a motorcycle helmet in their coat room had to be escalated to get a manager when the staff simply did the old head shake no sign and wouldn't respond to in Chinese or English. That set the tone for the day.. In the manager's defence, he did handle it but not before 3 separate staff members just said no and walked away.

During the event, other staff in this so called 5* behaved no differently screaming at patrons as if we were in the a Hebei backwater market. To be fair, they didn't scream at me and i probably over reacted based on my earlier experience at the coat room. Still, it made thinks very uncomfortable.

Finally, to take the cake, on the way out of the event bearing gifts from some of the traders, I was literally grabbed by the arm and screamed until the event manager showed up to explain that i was given said things as a gift and not walking away with them. Again, I'm sure they were just doing their job but this is not the level or type of service i would expect from a place like that.

Mind you, I never stayed there and I'm now extremely reluctant to even go there for events much less recommend it for visiting friends and business partners
